On January 15, 2026, the Department of Materials Technology under the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, organized a thematic seminar entitled “Plastics Materials Technology and Career Opportunities.” The event attracted approximately 500 students from the Materials Technology and Chemical Engineering Technology programmes, reflecting their strong interest in career orientation and emerging industry trends in the context of modern industrial development.

The seminar was conducted in a formal and professional yet highly engaging atmosphere, with the participation of lecturers, industry experts, and a large number of students. The programme aimed to provide students with a comprehensive overview of Materials Technology, its major fields of application, and employment opportunities after graduation. It also encouraged students to take a more proactive approach to planning their studies and future careers.

At the beginning of the programme, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Le Huy Cuong, Head of the Department of Materials Technology, provided an overview of the Materials Technology field. He emphasized the fundamental role of materials in the development of industries such as mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, food processing, biomedicine, and high technology. He also discussed current trends in emerging and advanced materials, as well as the increasing demand for qualified professionals in this field.

During his presentation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Le Huy Cuong provided students with practical information about the Materials Technology programme at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade. He also introduced a range of potential career paths, including materials technology engineer, mould and plastics design engineer, quality control engineer, researcher, and technical specialist at enterprises, industrial parks, and research institutes.

The programme continued with a presentation by Mr. Dao Thanh Khe, M.Sc., a lecturer at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and a representative of Phap Viet Food Company. He shared practical experience in plastics and polymer technology, focusing on the role of polymers and plastics in industrial manufacturing, particularly in the production of food-related products, packaging materials, and consumer goods.

Through practical examples from industry, Mr. Dao Thanh Khe helped students gain a clearer understanding of labour-market expectations. He emphasized the importance of developing a strong foundation of professional knowledge, practical skills, teamwork capabilities, and a commitment to continuous learning. His insights provided students with a valuable industry perspective and helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and industrial practice.

The academic discussion was highly interactive, with students raising numerous questions about internship opportunities, specialisation pathways, emerging material trends, and employment prospects at domestic and international companies. The speakers provided detailed responses, shared their professional experience, and offered practical advice, helping students develop clearer academic and career directions.

At the conclusion of the programme, the thematic seminar “Plastics Materials Technology and Career Opportunities” left a positive impression on both lecturers and students. This collaboration contributes to the shared goal of developing a highly qualified workforce to meet the needs of society.
