THE COSMETIC CHEMISTRY RESEARCH GROUP
1. Overview
The Natural Cosmetic Research Group, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Anh, focuses on harnessing natural compounds to develop safe, effective, and sustainable cosmetic products. The group’s orientation is to integrate modern scientific approaches with Vietnam’s rich natural resources, while promoting the circular economy model in the cosmetic industry.
2. Members and Research Areas
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Anh: Natural active compounds, cosmetic product development, circular economy. Research on catechin, curcumin, konjac starch, rosemary extract, and novel compounds from lichens and plants.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Hung Thanh Tung: Natural compounds. Extensive research on Brucea mollis, isolating isoprenoids, coumarins, flavonoids, sterols, and phenolic glucosides.
Dr. Lu Thi Mong Thy: Natural product chemistry, cosmetic chemistry. Research on saponin-rich extracts from Codonopsis Javanica, polyphenols from ginger family plants, and applications in lipsticks, cleansing balms, massage gels, and soaps.
Dr. Nguyen Cao Hien: Natural compounds, nanotechnology. Studies on cyclodextrin-modified nanoparticles for drug delivery, gold nanoparticle synthesis, and extraction of Syzygium aromaticum for cosmetic applications.
Dr. Phan Thi Thanh Dieu: Cosmetic product development. Research on nanoemulgel with ginger essential oil, hydrosol and essential oil from Ocimum tenuiflorum, Illicium verum essential oil for toothpaste, and Piper betle essential oil for hand sanitizers.
Dr. Le Thi Hong Thuy: Development of cosmetic product lines. Research on exfoliating gels from pineapple peel extract.
MSc. Le Thuy Nhung & Dr. Nguyen Thi Luong: Research on Opuntia cochenillifera extract for skin care gels, antioxidant and antibacterial activities of Momordica charantia, Dimocarpus longan extracts for acne treatment, Morinda citrifolia extracts for anti-dandruff and hair growth, Ocimum tenuiflorum hydrosol for acne care, and edible composite coatings for fruit preservation.

Application of nanotechnology and modern biotechnology: Enhancing absorption and efficacy of cosmetic formulations.
Circular economy approach: Reusing agricultural by-products, minimizing waste, and promoting green production.
International and interdisciplinary collaboration: Expanding cooperation with scientists and enterprises worldwide for technology transfer and commercialization.

Patents and utility solutions granted by the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam: production processes for rosemary-based skin cream and konjac starch-perilla oil moisturizing masks.
